This review is from: Blackberry Bold 9900 Unlocked (Electronics) I will state right in the beginning my view that Blackberries continue to be the leaders when it comes to security, data efficiency, reliability and and practicality. My company-issued Blackberry does not do games very well and I'm not using it to play movies (I prefer the 73" screen in the living room for that) but it's amazingly good when it comes to getting my email and quickly composing new messages or replying to the incoming. Also great at integrating the enterprise email with any Web email services I'm using, Bluetooth-paired devices and the phone features be they 4G or Wi-Fi. Current Bold users should be happy and almost certainly happier with the 9900 because this is very much the 'old' Bold only sleeker, faster or, in other words... bolder. When it comes to new users, it's a crowded marketplace out there. Those who prefer great physical keyboards may want to look into this Bold because you could hardly find a better 'phone' keyboard anywhere and that includes other Blackberries. I am currently a Torch user but I've been given the opportunity to try out a couple of the newer models: this new Bold and the new Torch 9810. I will confess that I personally prefer the new Torch to the new Bold because I prefer a slightly larger screen but, in fairness, few phones come close to the new Bold when the factors considered are elegance, the quality of the build and, naturally, the keyboard. First, the good things about the 9900 Bold: - IT'S STILL A BLACKBERRY - This is important to the many BB users who want their Blackberry to change only slightly from one generation to another, at least as far as the physical form and the user interface is concerned. While Blackberries evolved from the little 'wheel' to the track ball to the current touch-sensitive pad to touch screens, they are still recognizable and I bet that if a time traveler from, let's say, 2002, popped up in 2011, he/she should be able to use the 9900 in no time. All buttons are at the familiar locations and, at least when comparing it with the previous generation, the 9900 responds very much in the same way with 'touch' added if needed but never mandatory to accomplish anything. I find myself using a combination of touch, buttons and sometimes to track pad to operate it. - IT'S SMALLER, LIGHTER - While the screen appears to be (very slightly) larger on the 9900, its bulk is significantly reduced. The 9900 is thinner and it appears to weigh less than its predecessor. Not everyone may appreciate this in the beginning and I was one of those but I got used with the lighter device quickly and I would consider it an improvement now. - IMPROVED PICTURE QUALITY - Very much on par with what's current 'best in the business', the picture on the 9900 is significantly better as far as brightness and resolution. I would not use the Bold to watch movies or read books with the Kindle app but this is because I don't use Blackberries that way. I could if I wanted to. To me Blackberries are expected to do: email, voice, enterprise integration. Everything else is 'extras' - my employer wouldn't like to see me watch movies, play games or update my Facebook wall on the company 'phone'. - EXTRAS - Of course, you get cameras with geolocation which I'm not likely to use a lot but it's good to know it's there, you can get video for free or subscribe to some pay services, have the ability to store various media and so on. It's good to have them but I'm not likely to spend much time with the 'extras' except maybe with the Web browser which, by the way, is very good at handling HTML5. - IMPROVED WEB BROWSER - This is good news. The built-in browser may not be as good as, let's say, Opera but it's coming pretty close and it's a major improvement over what Blackberry used to offer. This one is, of course, touch enabled. - 4G - Of course. It makes this model (a lot) more expensive than most of the competition. - Bluetooth, WI-FI - they work great and pairing with a Bluetooth device can be done literally in seconds. In addition to the above, on the 'the same' or not necessarily 'improvements' category, I noticed no significant change as far as battery life is concerned. Hard to measure it but I would recharge it every couple of days if used for phone/email only and at least daily if a lot of web browsing or video is involved. On the not-so-good or 'really annoying' side, I really hated the abundance of bloatware - I call it 'crapware' - that seems to have invaded the Blackberry world. There is an abundance of little pre-installed apps and services that, shortly after you click on and go to the trouble of activating them, it turns out that they are 'pay' things, ranging from Pac-Man to TV services, and it's either impossible or very difficult to remove - I didn't have the time to waste so I was able to quickly hide them but... there SO MANY of them. If Research in Motion is listening, they should know that I do NOT love Blackberry more for turning the BB desktop into some apps and services peddling space. Blackberry's app store continues to be difficult to navigate, overpriced and quite unattractive. When it comes to rating the Bold 9700, within the context of Blackberries, it's probably one of the best (the Torch is still my #1). It's lighter, brighter, sharper, faster and provides more functionality than previous models so it's a five-star. And, yes. The Blackberry is not an iPhone or an Android. And the reverse happens to be true: iPhones and Androids are not Blackberries. I'm using an Honeycomb tablet for personal entertainment and there is an iPad in our household but what I've been using a Blackberry for 'business' quick, efficient and reliable communications for the past 10+ years. samsung t139 unlocked gsm cell phone: Ordered the Samsung T139 because of the low price, it was unlocked, I prefer a clamshell, it had Bluetooth and a speakerphone. However, I live in a fringe area and the signal reception was unreliable. The phone showed 0 or 1 bar most of the time. Other than that, it had everything I needed.

Went and purchased another new model Samsung (also G2) from T-Mobile and the signal strength was the same. I returned that new model.

Tried out an LG GD570 and the signal was at least twice as strong and G3. I'm going with the LG and will keep the T139 as a backup as it didn't cost much. However, the LG has a tremendous amount of features that will keep you busy setting things up for days! It also works great with Microsoft Sync except no texting.
I was looking for a flip-phone that had good call and sound quality and would be easy to text with. This phone is perfect for both, without any extra features or apps (which I didn't want to spend money on to begin with).

I have owned and used this phone for about a week now, with T-mobile.
It's speaker volume and clarity as well as when you hold it up to ear are both excellent. This is a great simple phone if you are looking for basic functions only. It's nicely sized, not too bulky to fit in a small pocket, and is very light. Connected to my bluetooth ear-piece easily, and worked well. The only thing is the phone is made of plastic which makes me want to get a rubberized cover for it in case it falls or gets scratched. Over all I am very pleased with this phone!

Everyone in our family has these and we use them with T mobile prepaid. They are good phones for the price, loud sound, can use bluetooth and big buttons for dialing.

However, you will NOT be able to get the photos off of it with a cable or Bluetooth. You have to send them to your email, which costs minutes on prepaid. The ability to do so is disabled on the Tmobile prepaid version of this phone. The guys at the store do not know this, and sold me a cable. After speaking to Tmobile when struggling to download photos I was told this was true.

NOKIA N900 UNLOCKED PHONE MOBILE COMPUTER

Nokia N900 Unlocked Phone/Mobile Computer with 3.5-Inch Touchscreen, QWERTY, 5 MP Camera, Maemo Browser, 32 GB--U.S. Version with Full Warranty

I received my n900 just a few days ago from Nokia USA. For the purposes of this review, I will compare it to my previous phone, the HTC G1. My opinions are solely based on the user experiences in the past days with the n900, and since I've never owned an iphone, I will not compare it to such.

Physical layout:

• The N900 is a pretty beefy phone, and rightfully so. While having some heft to it, the n900 is solid and well-built. The black metal rim is a nice touch without being too gaudy. The slide is not spring-assisted but gives a nice click upon opening and closing. I have not noticed any creaks or wobbles from the screen. Few have complained about the back being hard to open. Although true, I rather have that with the peace of mind that the battery won't pop out if I dropped it (God forbid)! the n900 is of comparable size to the G1, albeit being slightly thicker, and not a problem for me.
• I don't really understand all the fuss about resistive and capacitive screens. The n900's screen is gorgeous and is incredibly brilliant. There is a little 'give' to the screen, but I've yet to have problems with it. The screen is quite responsive and supports kinetic scrolling. I did have some difficulty clicking on small links in the browser, but that's because your index finger isn't exactly the most accurate pointing device. This was easily solved by zooming in (more on that later).
• The keyboard is pretty good. It is a different experience coming from the G1 (as you have to type with the 'chin' in the way on your right hand) so naturally, it felt better. The keys have a grippy rubberized texture feel to them, and although the buttons are smooshed next to each other, (like a real keyboard) they have good response. I do miss the 5-row keyboard on the G1, and I don't understand why the n900's screen doesn't open up a bit more. For those with large hands, it might be a little uncomfortable. However, one plus for the n900 is that my thumbs don't have to travel as far to type.
• I love that the placement of the speakers are on the sides of the phone, as opposed to the back on the G1. I do a lot of talking on speakerphone, and so I'm not forced to flip it upside down during a call. Sound quality is good and the speakers are decent.

Maemo 5/ Software

• This is the ultimate customization OS. When they meant open source, they really meant it. The 4 desktops make things a lot easier to navigate. For example, one page is devoted to my common phone contacts, another utility apps, the third has bookmarks to frequent sites (the homepages of those links are previewed on the desktop, fyi), and so forth.
• The way Maemo multitasks is ingenious. The "overview" page where you see all your actively running programs makes navigating between windows and programs very easy and efficient. One thing to note is that you have the ability to close out any of those windows upon your choosing, as opposed to the G1 where the 6 app limit neither allowed to you open more nor shut them down, making it very sluggish, especially during critical times (ie texting someone directions while running gps).
• SMS (called conversations in Maemo) is pretty similar to the G1, but has one added step - conversations either in text or IM by the same person are displayed in the same window. The ability to have the other person's contact image in the text box (that is if you set one up for that person) is a nice touch. I personally don't care about MMS, so no gripes there.
• The email client is pretty decent, I set up my gmail account with a few simple steps, but it isn't nearly as accessible as the gmail app on the G1. For example, I haven't found a way to delete an incoming email when it first comes in. I have to leave the letter, go into the inbox, back into the email, then delete it.
• Browsing experience is comparable to the pc, and is nothing short of awesome. Full flash means I can access full youtube pages, and among others. I think the "swirling zoom" gesture is pretty neat, and helps me to click on the smaller links. I figured out that using your index to swirl zoom produces the best results. Alternatively, you can double click the screen or use the volume rocker. Going to previous pages not only allows you to go to the last page, but scroll through the entire history of that window. Neat.
• Applications-wise, there are not many out there, but I'm certain many will be out soon. You can also access the Maemo repositories for more (google it) but be careful as many of them are still in development and are potentially dangerous to your phone. Noteworthy apps include Hermes (connects your social sites, like facebook to your contacts so you get contact phones, birthdates, etc) and Qik (live streaming recording).

Hardware:

• Fast, fast, fast. Need I say more?
• No hang ups yet, since I can close apps at my own will.
• The camera is good, that is for a 5mp phone camera. It will never compare to a dedicated camera, but is more than effective for quick shots to upload on facebook.
• The FM transmitter is a great add-on. Now I can share songs without having to look for an aux cable.
• Battery life seems to last a little over a day with some text and internet. Wifi is on all the time when I'm at home. My G1 would be down to around 70% by noon.

Of course, no phone/mobile device is perfect. Here are some things that came to my attention:

• The volume rocker is on the right side (in portrait), meaning it is nearly impossible to use as a zoom when the screen is up. Same goes for the lock switch, which is on the bottom (in landscape). Would have been much better on the sides, as it would be easier to lock after a phone call, for example.
• Copy and paste is kinda sporadic. While you can copy all you want on webpages, I couldn't copy a phone number from one contact to another in the phonebook.
• The stand is nice, but it swings out way too deep and feels a bit too weak. I'm afraid I'll break it someday.
• *Little portrait support as of now, but I think it'll be fixed soon.

So there you have it. My impressions of the n900. There is still a lot of exploration to be done, but I can honestly say this is the best phone/mobile device I've ever owned. In spite of a few shortcomings, its an amazing piece of technology. A lot of things I didn't mention probably will be fixed within a firmware or two so that isn't a problem. I have at&t and I had this model with them, but unfortunetley I dropped it pretty hard and broke it, but I love this phone, the features are great and I use the media player in the gym to listen to my music. I love that you can add memory to it. So on the tiny disc, I have my presentations, music and famiy pictures. It is great and easy to use. I lvoe that it is touch screen and it has a keyboard.

BAD if the touch screen stops working you will not be able to text message, their is no way to write text messages AND send them without the touch screen. I have had several of these models and twice this has happen, but I do drop my phone quite a lot. I have always had trouble with phones, but I do really enjoy this model.

Love it fits in your pocket, not big.. fits very good in your hands..aand the features are great

I love this phone. It's the best phone I've ever had. The keyboard is just the right size and everything works great. I'll try and rate things individually.

Messaging(9/10)- Messaging is extremely simple on this phone. There is no difficulty figuring out what is what. You will have to play around with it a bit to get accustomed to it however. You can also keep a record of your conversations from person to person, so there is no need to go back and forth to each message to see what you wrote.

Music(9/10): The music player is wonderful. It will display the CD cover or whatever picture you have set for each song. There is a shuffle feature, however, I took a point off because the shuffle is so random, sometimes you may come across the same songs, and never seem to get around to the others. The sound is very clear and concise. No static. The headphones they give you with it will slip out of your ears a lot. So I recommend purchasing an adapter that goes to 3.5mm headphones that way you can put in your own.
Some of the features include:

-sorting by artists, genre, recently played, most played, last played
-Repeat/shuffle
-Shortcuts
-background playing
-sound effects(Wide, Dynamic, surround, pop, rock, etc.)

Radio(9/10) -The radio is excellent! As far as reception, its the same as any portable device, so I can't comment on that but as far as shortcuts, station setting, etc, its amazing.

Memory(9/10)- The largest memory card you can purchase for the phone is 8GB, which is good enough for me. I can put lots of music and videos without worrying about space. Internal memory is 34MB, which isn't so bad

Camera/Video(8/10)- The camera is a 2MP camera and it's not bad. It's pretty much what you would expect from a 2MP camera phone. The features, such as zoom/effects/night mode/timer/viewfinder, etc are all very good. More than most phones I would say. I have taken like one 3 second video so I'm not sure of how it is. If you download videos or whatever, it would be good I assume

Organizer(10/10)-The organizer is great. Here is a list of the organizer features:
-Calender(lists wk number on the side as a bonus)[Also lists events you have missed]
-MEMO-A very simple tool that you can simply use to write something down for later use. I use it to write down songs I want to download. Very useful
-TASK- This is similar to memo except that this is better used for events and remembrances that you can set an alarm to
-WORLD CLOCK-Useful for seeing time around the world(I never use it)
-CALCULATOR-A very basic and simple calculator(not scientific) that useful for just taking a quick mathematical process
-CONVERTER-This is a wonderful took for doing conversions and it is very easy to use. You can convert Length, Weight, Volume, Area, and Temperature

Internet(?)- This is the biggest flaw, not because I think the internet sucks or anything. Frankly, I haven't even used the internet for the phone. I have T-mobile and previously, I paid $10 a month for internet. I assumed it would be the same. but when I got the phone, it said i couldn't use the internet. I looked through the plans and the cheapest one was $30 a month! YIKES! Maybe not for you, but for me, that is VERY expensive for a mobile internet. But that may be because it's unlocked. It may be different for you. I have no idea. So I'm disappointed about that. I was hoping for wi-fi to make up for it. But this phone has no wi-fi. But I already knew that when I bought it so it didn't bother me too much.
 

Overall: An excellent phone that I would highly recommend. It has a unique look. I love the numbers on the side. It's not bothering in the slightest. However, if you know you have very large fingers, the keyboard may not be the best for you.

After some usage, I can tell I have used this cellphone enough for writing a review. It is a nice phone with really cool features. The size is good enough for you to handle it comfortably. The camera takes good quality photos but not so good quality videos. It only works on GSM so Internet browsing is slow --probably also depends on the provider-- The bluetooth is easy to turn on/off and the speaker is really good for conferencing as it's very loud. The screen sensibility is cut at the corners/borders. It reads MP3s and the FM Radio works only with the earphone but it is OK. The games it comes with are really good --especially the sudoku one-- I plugged a 4GB microSD class 4 card and no problems detecting the card or uploading/downloading stuff from it.

Es un teléfono bastante completo, me parece que tiene una muy buena relación costo/prestaciones. Pequeño, ligero y con estilo.

Lo compré como un regalo para mi novia y le encantó. La pantalla táctil responde muy bien una vez te acostumbras a ella, la camara es relativamente buena para fotos, para videos no hay que esperar mucha calidad. El único contra que le encontré al tlf es el hecho de que a pesar de que sí cuenta con idioma español en el menú, para escribir con diccionario no existe, la solución que le encontré a esto fue ponerlo en inglés e ir guardando las palabras que el diccionario no reconoce.

En conclusión: Poco dinero por un gran teléfono!!
